Jonny

Capone had done his homework—even without knowing I’d been considering his idea of going legit. It probably helped that he had a not-too-busy lawyer in his bed every night. Lucky bastard. Besides beautiful, Helina knew how to take a project by the balls and dig to find the what and how of every aspect.

He’d already finished up the application and permits process to open a retail store for the edibles he had planned—and the lounge I’d secretly been considering. Helina had helped him draw up a business plan for his own retail place, but they’d also done one along with a business corporate structure to present to me in the hopes of talking the Gliders into going legit with a couple of lounges opening over a five-year period.

Papers spread over my desk, I sat, stunned, taking in the hours of work the two of them had given. Capone sat sprawled on one of the three chairs across from my desk, Digger and Hawk to his left.

“All we need,” Capone said, “is to find the funds to clean up that empty warehouse the Gliders own on the corner of Main and Delaware. It’s the perfect spot. High traffic, close enough to downtown to draw people in.”

“Damn.” I cleared my throat and glanced at Hawk. “What are you thinking?” I asked since his face didn’t reveal jack shit.

“I wouldn’t mind going legit since the thought of Deputy Jenko getting something to stick enough to land our asses in jail—away from our women—would be fucking hell.”

“Digger?” I asked, turning my focus on him.

“Make me the head of security, and I’m in.”

I snorted a laugh. “Any chance to break some bones.”

“Fucking right.”

“Yes, you’d be head chef, Capone,” I said, knowing that was one of the main reasons he wanted to push the lounge idea with its full menu—which he also had printed out, pricing and all.

He grinned.

Sitting back, I found myself internally relaxing for the first time since assuming the role of President. “We’re going to put this before the entire club for feedback. Members and prospects alike. I think it’s only fair since they’re either paying membership fees or working their asses off to join a brotherhood that’s currently focused on its outlaw ways.”

“We could probably get the bulk of the club in here within two or three days,” Hawk said around his toothpick.

I nodded. “Make it happen.”

A knock sounded on the door. “Yeah?” I hollered.

Rucker, my tech guy and part-time bartender for the club, pulled the door open. “Janie and Alexa are here. Wasn’t sure you wanted them to wait out here?”

Janie pushed past Rucker before I could answer, her hand clasping Alexa’s and pulling her in behind. Both women’s faces seemed a bit pale, Alexa’s eyes wide and full of fear as her gaze landed on me.

I stood as Hawk did, but he reached them first. “What happened?” he asked, holding Janie’s forearms.

“Alexa saw Scott in the mall parking lot.”

A shudder rippled through Alexa’s body as I pulled her against my chest.
